Seaforth Highlander Exhibition

January 16 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

The Kinloch Historical Society invite members of the public to the launch of our latest exhibition – The Seaforth Highlanders.Β  This exhibition is a year long partnership with the Highlanders’ Museum – Fort George.Β  Items from their Queen’s Own Highlander Collection are on display telling the history of the regiment.

The Seaforth Highlanders have a long history with the Outer Hebrides, particularly the parish of Lochs.Β  In theΒ 16th century, Clan Mackenzie were acting as the Crown’s chief agent in the north.Β  Torquil Cononach, the son of Roderick MacLeod of Lewis, was denounced as a rebel in February 1597.Β  His rights to the island were then relinquished to the Mackenzie Chief.

The Mackenzie Chiefs took the titles Earls (and Jacobite Marquises) of Seaforth after Loch SΓ¬thphort, in 1623.Β  More than a century later, the Earl of Seaforth established the 72nd Regiment – the predecessor unit to the Seaforth Highlanders.

These stories, and many others are shared as part of the exhibition, along with a collection of uniforms, weapons, and ceremonial items.

The exhibition opens to the public on Friday 16 January from 4pm-8pm in the museum.

The exhibition is available to visit during normal working hours thereafter (Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm).
